报告摘要:

Quantum operations are highly sensitive to environmental noise. Dynamically corrected gates, in particular composite pulse sequences, are traditionally designed by expanding the evolution operator with respect to certain noise parameters and then setting leading orders to zero, which are based on the assumption that noises are static. However, many quantum systems experience time-dependent noise, and generalizing existing methods to treat non-static noises have proven difficult. In this talk, we introduce composite pulses designed to mitigate dynamic, non-static noise via a geometric framework. While recovering existing composite pulse sequences, we develop new ones which are shorter, and less prone to time-dependent noises. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method using 1/f noise. Our method offers improved gate fidelity under complex noise environments, which should be useful for more reliable control in near-term quantum devices.

报告人简介:

Prof. Xin (“Sunny") Wang is an Associate Professor at Department of Physics, City University of Hong Kong. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Physics at Peking University in 2005 and then went to Columbia University in the City of New York, USA, to conduct theoretical research on correlated electron systems under the guidance of Prof. Andrew Millis. In 2010, he obtained his Ph.D. in Physics. Afterward, he served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Condensed Matter Theory Center at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA, until March 2015. He then returned to work at the Department of Physics at City University of Hong Kong. His primary research areas include theoretical quantum physics, condensed matter physics, correlated electron systems, and numerical methods. In 2012, Prof. Wang and collaborators proposed the SUPCODE dynamically corrected quantum gates, published in Nature Communications and later validated in laboratory experiments. Prof. Wang has published about 70 academic papers, which have been cited over 2,500 times. His h-index is 26. Prof. Wang has been recognized by many awards, including the Global Spotlight Member from American Physical Society, and the President’s Award from City University of Hong Kong.
